The Best Protective Styles for Natural Hair

Protective styling is a great way to maintain the health and length of kinky hair. But so often, our good intentions are misled with bad hair care habits, leaving us confused and defeated about how to grow our kinky natural hair.

Don't worry Sunny In Denbigh is here to help!!

Some of the best protective styles for kinky hair include a few necassary conditons- tucking the ends, removing the weight (we recommend not using extensions), being able to easily moisturize, something that allows for little to no manipulation. Here are a few of our favorites:

Braids: Box braids, cornrows, and minibraids are all great options for protective styling. These styles allow the hair to be tucked away and protected while still looking stylish.

Wigs: Wigs are a versatile option for protective styling, as they can be styled in a variety of ways and can be removed easily when it's time to wash and condition the hair.

Twists: A Sunny In Denbigh favorite! Twists are a great way to protect the hair while also adding texture and definition. They can be styled in a variety of ways and can be left in for several weeks before needing to be re-twisted.

Protective updos: Protective updos like bantu knots, two-strand twists, and flat twists are a great way to keep the hair protected while still looking cute and stylish.

Remember, it's important to keep the hair moisturized and well-nourished, even when it's in a protective style. This can be achieved by regularly oiling the scalp, using a leave-in conditioner, and avoiding tight styles that pull on the hair and scalp.
